Doubtful Sound

This was Barge Day, a special day for the tiny group of lonely soles that work in the Doubtful Sound. The Doubtful Sound is one of the most remote, inaccessible places on Earth. Once a week - EVERY supply required to sustain work and life is carried 25kms across this lake and carted down the most, at the time of building - expensive-per-metre-road in the world... This place is beautifully remote, rugged and untouched. One of my favorite places on Earth and I could go on and on about it, but instead I implore you to find out everything about it and go there and experience this place for yourself!
Anyway, back to the picture - We were close to arriving on the west side of Lake Manapouri close to the Manapouri Power Station in the West Arm. I was standing on the chilly deck at the back of our tour boat watching the trailing barge. Keep in mind there are literally one or two boats on the whole lake at any time so we cruised slowly passed as not to disturb the load. I felt this would be a cool shot well before we had even passed the boat - by incorporating the sun and it's shards of light blanketing the surrounding mountains.
